Obi Of Onitsha Goes Into Seclusion As 2025 Ofala Festival Begins

AWKA – To prepare himself spiritually and be clean enough to com­mune with the spirits in order to negotiate the fortunes of his people, the Obi of Onitsha Igwe Nnaemeka Alfred Achebe has gone into seclusion as this year’s Ofala Festival themed, ‘Njiko na Ntachi’ (Unity and Perseverance) approaches.

This is part of traditional cer­emonies that precede the grand celebration that is well underway.

A statement signed by Ozonmma Tony Nezieanya, a member of Media Lead, strate­gic marketing communication subcommittee stated that these sacred rituals are a vital part of Onitsha’s rich cultural heritage.

The Onitsha monarch’s seclu­sion from the public is known in Igbo language as ‘Inye Ukwu Na Nlo Eze Onicha ‘ (spiritual re­treat of the monarch), shielding him from public view.
