Obi Of Onitsha Goes Into Seclusion As 2025 Ofala Festival Begins
AWKA – To prepare himself spiritually and be clean enough to commune with the spirits in order to negotiate the fortunes of his people, the Obi of Onitsha Igwe Nnaemeka Alfred Achebe has gone into seclusion as this year’s Ofala Festival themed, ‘Njiko na Ntachi’ (Unity and Perseverance) approaches.
This is part of traditional ceremonies that precede the grand celebration that is well underway.
A statement signed by Ozonmma Tony Nezieanya, a member of Media Lead, strategic marketing communication subcommittee stated that these sacred rituals are a vital part of Onitsha’s rich cultural heritage.
The Onitsha monarch’s seclusion from the public is known in Igbo language as ‘Inye Ukwu Na Nlo Eze Onicha ‘ (spiritual retreat of the monarch), shielding him from public view.
